Alternative rockers Third Eye Blind probably weren't betting their
music would still be on the radio over a decade past the release of their
self-titled debut album in 1997. Birthed out of the counter-culture capital that
is San
Francisco, the band achieved ultimate pop star status
with Top 20 Billboard hits like "Semi-Charmed Life,” “Jumper” and “How"s It
Going to Be" (the record went on to sell over 6 million copies). Their follow-up
album, “Blue,” would also be a platinum seller and spawn the Top 20 hit “Never
Let You Go.” After slugging these two home runs, the band hit a wall. Their
record label, Elektra Records, under-promoted several artists on their roster,
as they were in the process of being absorbed into much larger, Atlantic
Records. This led to an under-publicized third album, 2003’s "Out of the Vein,"
which was critically acclaimed but not commercially successful. The following
year, they, along with several other music acts, were dropped from Warner Music
Group. Disillusioned, Third Eye Blind went on hiatus and pursued other projects.
In 2007, to mark and celebrate the anniversary of their major label debut, the
band regrouped and performed in their hometown. It was announced soon after that
they had begun recording again. These recordings would become "Ursa Major,"
their fourth and most recent album released in August 2009 on their own label,
Mega Collider Records. Currently, Third Eye Blind is on tour supporting the new
record, and they'll be making an appearance in San Antonio on Nov. 9th at Sunset
Station Lonestar Pavilion. For more details on Third Eye Blind and their current
tour, log on to 3eb.com.

Do you want two tickets to paradise? How about for free?
Well you may not be able to have a free getaway, but a free concert is a more
than fair compromise. 70s and 80s rocker Eddie Money will be headlining
Jackfest 3 put on by 102.7 Jack FM. The best part about it is it's absolutely
free.
Most recognize Money from his throwback hits like "Shakin,” “Take Me Home
Tonight,” and “Think I"m in Love,” but for the first time in nearly a decade,
he is recording again. In 2007, Eddie Money released Wanna Go Back, a cover
record of his favorite songs from the 60s, and in 2008, he recorded a Country
version of “Gimme Some Water” in a duet with Vince Gill. While many of us
remember Eddie Money from when he was on the charts or the radio, a new
generation of fans has emerged from his appearances on TV such as the King of
Queens or his music appearing in video games like Guitar Hero and Grand Theft
Auto. Jackfest 3 at the Sunken Gardens Theater should be a rockin’ time for
people of all ages, no matter how full your wallet is. For more info on the
concert, visit Jack FM’s website at http://www.hellojack.com and make sure to hold on to
the date August 15th.

The funny thing about Punk
bands is that typically, they don't have a great deal of longevity.
However, a band like Green Day is all about breaking barriers and busting
stereotypes. They weren"t fazed when they left their small independent
label nearly 20 years ago to make their smash debut Dookie in 1994,
they weren’t shaken when the band experimented with new sounds with
and came up with their huge hit "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”,
and they show no signs of stopping through the ever changing landscape
of popular music. Their last release, 2004’s American Idiot, was considered
to be their magnum opus. It was a rock opera profiling the journey of
“Jesus of Suburbia”, an Anti-Hero designed to find meaning in a
desolate United States. It was met with wild praise, including Best
Rock Album at the 2004 Grammys. Green Day however are no strangers to
awards, they’ve won 2 other Grammys and have been nominated 15 times
total. Looking forward, Green Day’s 8th studio album, 21st
Century Breakdown, comes out on May 15th, and it is shaping
up to be an epic much like its predecessor. Divided into three parts,
the concept of this album has to do with a young couple living in Post-Bush
America and it clocks in at 74 minutes long. While the album can be
in your hands shortly, you can see them for yourself later on this summer.
Green Day will be touring for this epic production and they will rock
the AT&T Center here in town on August 9th. For more
information about the album, tour, or anything else, visit greenday.com.
