A CALL TO ARMS

Here at SAMetro we strive to bring to light the best of San Antonio in its diverse cultural setting.  There is so much to be seen, heard, tasted, and tried that our inventory of topics seems almost endless. However, this has proven to be a double-edge sword at times; helping us, but hurting us at the same time. Unfortunately, with so much to do in order to maintain SAMetro, the time required to cover so many aspects of this beautiful city is simply is not available. However, SAMetro is a website designed for the people of San Antonio, by the people of San Antonio and we have a great selection of readers who view our newsletters every week. With that said, we at SAMetro are extending our readers the opportunity to contribute to our ever-growing website through their writing, photos, and videos of SA. Ever visit a unique place in San Antonio that struck you so strongly, that you have always felt the need to tell others about your experience? Do you have the talent to photograph different city events that display the various people of San Antonio enjoying life in SA? If so, then you have exactly what we are looking for. Share with us your talents and you will receive recognition for your efforts as an official contributor. For more information on how to contribute, please email The SAMetro/B1604 Team. CM

COCINA AMERICANA

The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is introducing a new program - the CIA's Center for Foods of the Americas (CFA). The dream for the CFA is to elevate Latin American cuisines to their rightful place among the great foods of the world. San Antonio is one of only two sites that offer the CFA program; their aim is to prepare Latino students, culinary students, and those interested in the culinary field to see the diversity in not only foods but people and culture. The CFA will become an international center for those seeking to experience, learn about, and research Latin American cuisines. Classes are currently underway to obtain a culinary arts certificate, be sure to visit their Web site for more information about the 30-week program.

DERBY DREAMS

Whenever I pass a skate park I always wonder "Do people still skate?" Skating is old school, roller derby is the way to go and local women's flat track roller derby travel team Blazin' Banditas Roller derby is proving that skating is still in style. The non-profit team is "committed to bringing awareness to women's competitive sports, as well as, giving back to the community through community service projects." Group members include former members of the Alamo City Rollergirls, as well as, a few new fresh faces right off the crash course session that ended a few weeks back. With a motto like "we skate hard, play hard and are ready to blaze it up," these girls know how to live it up while also staying true to their mission statement. For more information, visit the Blazin' Banditas Roller derby MySpace page.
