UNLIKELY CAMPUS HAUNT

In November, the Institute of Texan Cultures at the University of Texas at San Antonio invited a paranormal team to investigate its quarters, ITC says in its December newsletter. Folklorist Rhett Rushing says there have been stories of paranormal activity for years, and that the investigation fits right in with the organization's mission to honor all Texas cultures, even ones that believe in ghosts. The Institute adds that it has no official stance on paranormal activity.

Everyday Paranormal, a partnership of two San Antonio brothers, investigates such situations free of charge. The Lone Star ghostbusters do not charge, and use imaging and recording devices in their practices, not séances and other occult practices. Sorry, no battery packs loaded with high-powered ghostbusting beams. Everyday Paranormal, in its third investigation of the ITC before an audience of 80 visitors, says that they have confirmed paranormal activity, even in places they didn't expect to witness it. Experiencing any weird activity of your own? The brothers take phone-ins and may even be able to check out what's haunting you, all in the name of research. SS

NEW SCHOOL

With the school year coming to a close, plans are being made for the official opening of the newest college campus for the Alamo Community Colleges—Northeast Lakeview College. Although the campus has been in operation since fall 2006 working out of the 8300 Pat Booker Road location; in fall 2008 the official Northeast Lakeview College campus is set to open. The current campus serves 3,000 students. It is estimated that the campus could accommodate over 15,000 students from northeast San Antonio, Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties. In April 2007, the groundbreaking of the campus took place. The $125 million project is located off Kitty Hawk Road and Loop 1604 in northeast Bexar County. Northeast Lakeview will now be the fifth member of the Alamo Community Colleges. For more information about Northeast Lakeview, contact 210.590.5401 or visit their Web site at http://www.accd.edu/nec/
