As freshmen college students embark on their very first collegiate experience; they are now on their own with all of the shackles of the early teenage years gone. And if the Freshman 15 myth is true, students are indulging in that taste of life on their own. As the article "Beating the Freshman 15" suggests there is some truth to the weight gain for college students, although gaining an entire 15 pounds during freshman year may be a stretch. Studies have shown that "students on average gain 3 to 10 pounds during their first 2 years of college." It is also citied that most of the weight gain occurs during the first semester of freshman year. The reason for the weight gain is obvious new found freedom, the stress of being away from parents, as well as, the stress of college level courses and also adapting to a new school. For more information, visit the Teens Health Web site.

If you're an 09er then you may or may not know about the new Web site specifically for residents of Alamo Heights; or as everyone in San Antonio refers to Alamo Heights residents 09ers due to their zip code. The site has sections for real estate, community market place, local, state and world news, links and more. Robert Ruggiero, owner of the graphic arts studio Graphic Ambitions, has been working on the Web site for over five to six years and launched it six months ago. Virtually new, the site"s aim is to be a community portal similar to that of Craigslist. Ruggiero hopes that the site will be member driven; allowing residents of Alamo Heights to send in their own content relating to the community. See what MyAlamoHeights.com has to offer.
