There may be no such thing as a free meal, but it you plan
your grocery shopping well enough, you can get pretty darn close. Consider the
online phenomenon Stephanie Nelson,
a.k.a. Coupon Mom, who runs the 1.3 million-member CouponMom.com.
Nelson, who says she's been saving $100 a week in groceries since her
15-year-old son was born, has saved nearly $72,000 in groceries since clipping
coupons.
Nelson
recommends studying the circulars and, yes, purchasing a Sunday newspaper. She
insists an annual subscription is well worth the cost considering the savings
given in coupon inserts such as Red Plum and Smart Source, as well as H-E-B and
Sun Harvest circulars that outline the specials of the week. Plan your menus
with the circulars, she says, and learn the stores' saving programs such as buy
one, get one frees, double coupons, discount cards, etc. Nelson even has a free
e-book on her website that teaches how to slash grocery prices in half, and her
site is full of free online coupons that don’t require registration. For more

The next time you look at a movie theater, a hotel, or even
a "big box” store, you might ask yourself if it was built out of Insulated
Concrete Forms (ICF), a technical expression for recycled Styrofoam. Private
residences are also sometimes built out of ICF. Beyond the obvious advantage of
recycling the packaging materials used to protect appliances and electronics,
ICF construction helps keep utility bills low because of the high performance
insulation it provides. The construction materials aren't significantly more
expensive, and putting the Styrofoam blocks together isn"t unlike working with
big Lego blocks. They are also resistant to fire, high wind, molds, and
bugs. There are two common types of blocks: one is made of the ubiquitous
white Styrofoam and weighs about 4.5 pounds; the other is a mix of 85%
Styrofoam and 15% cement, and weighs about 70 pounds. Once the blocks are
stacked, both types need to be filled with a very wet concrete mix. A good
