CABO, BABY

Have a Latin flair? Maybe you have a margarita sweet tooth. Ever just feeling like going to a place that plays the type of music that won't allow you to sit still? There's a favorite spot in town that reminds you - you’re lucky you’re in San Antonio! If you like going out with your girls to drink and dance till the lights come on or if you bring your boys to scope the scene, show off your salsa skills, and take advantage of beer specials, Cabo Tropical Grille is the place who’s music resonates into the parking lot and into the streets.

During the day, Cabo boasts fine Mexican dining with enticing plates like Angeles a Caballo, with large gulf shrimp stuffed with white cheese and jalapeños wrapped in bacon. But at night the restaurant transforms into a two-room dance spectacle where you’ll be infused with cumbia, salsa, meringue, reggaeton, hip-hop, pop, and Latin pop. Still think you’re sitting down? There are $1 margaritas on Thursdays before 11 p.m. and $2 dos XX all night, along with two full-service bars that include frozen margarita machines. Each room is also equipped with flat screens, and Cabo just added a covered patio area outside with chic couches, fuel lamps and a taco bar. There’s a surrounding lounging area, but you won’t be sitting for long. Cabo Tropical Grill is located at 7711 Guilbeau Rd at the shopping center at Bandera and Gilbeau. SH

A MOON SWING

No offense to Texas' state capital, but maybe now you can stop running up to Austin's 6th Street every weekend when you want some cool jazz.

Opened on Nov.14, 2003, Luna Fine Music Club has become a San Antonio hot spot for great jazz and a swanky atmosphere. Upon entering the intimate, dimly lit club, you are welcomed by Jazz greats like drummer Art Blakey, trombonist Jay Jay Johnson, and trumpeter Stanley Turrentine hanging on the walls. The plush theater-style, red-velvet seating complemented by red velvet curtains is reminiscent of New York's famous jazz clubs, such as the Blue Note, Jazz Standard, and The Village Vanguard lets you know you are in for a real treat. If you're lucky you may get to enjoy the set from one of the inviting brown leather chairs in the back of the Club.
