VIVA SAN ANTONIO

Martini's Bar is San Antonio's answer to the Las Vegas lounge.  And don’t be alarmed by the windowless exterior—the inside is every bit as tacky and fun as the real deal. True to Vegas form, the drinks are not exactly cheap, but they’re not ridiculously priced either, with $2 domestics and $3 wells on weeknights. The crowd varies from middle aged regulars to rowdy college kids, with a little of everything else in between.

The main draw to this swanky joint is the karaoke stage, complete with a spotlight and a silver shiny curtain. Their song selection is extensive and so you’re guaranteed to find what you want to sing once you’ve had a couple rounds. And every Friday and Saturday Night, owner Wayne Harper regales the audience with his Las Vegas "Legends in Concert,” a lounge performance that fills up every seat in the house. Martini’s Bar is located on 8507 McCullough Ave.  Magda Gonzalez

AWAITED A-RIVE-AL

Night comes and you want to find a good place to have a little fun. At Club Rive, the opportunity to enjoy yourself is multiplied by four because of the four various rooms that distinguish the club from other dance venues. The first room is known as the Live Music Stage, where goers can experience the unique and infectious sounds of local and regional bands. Groups such as the Atomic Playboys, Flipside, Radio Junkies, and Papa Wood grace the live stage regularly. Another establishment in Rive is the Tabu Room which features music by DJ Trinidad consisting of the Top 40’s and the International Variety Hits. The lights accentuate the atmosphere and give highlight to the dancers strutting atop the bar.  If one is in the mood for a unique and flavor scented experience, all they have to do is make their way into the Hush lounge to grab a taste of the diverse Hookah flavors offered such as Cherry, Double Apple, among others. And finally the Sky Dome room, which is equipped with two VIP rooms facing Downtown SA and the Riverwalk.  Powered by a Hip Hop Mix from DJ BC the Sky Dome room is the perfect place for goers to light up the dance floor. Club Rive also offers opportunities for Corporate and Private Parties to gather together for all kinds of purposes. The club is located on 245 East Commerce Street. CM

COPIOUS

For a welcome change from the increasingly expansive North 1604 bar scene norm, step into Copa Wine Bar for an experience a little more refined than your average dollar drink special.  Nestled in the same strip mall boasting the much frequented Chicago Bar, Copa offers good wine, tasty tapas and an ambiance rivaling Zinc and Drink downtown wine bars.

The bar's unassuming exterior does not tip-off its well-decorated, open, dual level interior.  Great for small parties, downstairs is scattered with tables for two to six in addition to ample bar seating.  With a balcony view of the floor below, upstairs offers an intimate setting lined with plush couches perfect for a casual date.  The scene is low key and conversation friendly; the wait staff is knowledgeable and their recommendations on mark.

Copa serves European, domestic and sparkling wines and Champaign by the glass or bottle.  The menu is packed with cheese boards, tapas, pizzas and tempting desserts.  Contact the bar for information about their special wine tasting events where you can socialize with those with a shared passion for good wine.  Visit Copa at 19141 Stone Oak Parkway where you can relax with friends or mingle with a variety of interesting people.
