WOHL BEKOMMT’S!

The German culture can be exhibited during Gartenkonzerts (garden concerts) held at Beethoven Maennerchor located in Southtown on 422 Pereida Street. The garden concerts are held monthly (beginning during Fiesta and lasting until Oktoberfest). Food, wine and beer are all part of the festivities with music by The Beethoven Dance Band playing polka until midnight. German dancing along with authentic German foods such as Bratwurst, Ruben sandwiches and potato pancakes are available during the night long concert. It's like celebrating a family party, sit outside under the stars on picnic tables and take in some German culture while downing a cold beer. For more information, visit the Beethoven Maennerchor Web site.

BREAKING BAD
JC Flores is building on his dream to become an internationally-known DJ, one mix at a time. In only a few years of mixing various songs and music, Flores, known as Rockstar JC Flores in the music industry, has catered music to nationally celebrated events. Some of these presentations have included the 2009 Talent Expo hosted by KSAT-TV and LATV, and various gigs in Miami, Austin, Puerto Rico and Panama. "I enjoy breaking records, meaning that I love to distribute new music to the clientele,” he said. During his childhood, Flores became fascinated by classic rap music from legendary artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Heavy D, Dr. Dre, KRS-One. He remembers vividly catching on to Michael Jackson's performance in the music video for the song, “Billie Jean."

“Ever since I was a kid, I used to practice at home with some windmills or 1990 hand-spins, and I always grew up with the mindset that performing in front of one person or a thousand people would be the greatest joy anyone can have,” he said. Some of Flores" mixes include fusions of reggaeton, hip hop, country, rock jazz, old school rap and R&B, and Billboard’s Top 40 hits. His latest compilation, Mashup Wreckaz Radio Vol. 1, includes duets with fellow mixer, DJ Baddmixxrick and distinct variations of musical genres. Flores’ music can be heard on www.wildradioonline.com, www.876radio.com, www.virtualdjradio.com, and every Saturday on Dallas station, KNON 89.3 FM or www.knonorg. RABBIT STEW

Have the craving for a real rock show? The kind of show where the pit is thrashing, the crowd is bumping and the bands are growling? Then located on 2410 N. St. Mary’s St. is just the place for you. Already well established as the playground for independent heavy metal and hardcore bands, the White Rabbit venue looks to maintain its reign over the San Antonio independent metal scene by bringing only the best into the SA area this summer. Worn in demeanor and covered with creative street graffiti, this local hangout has the setting to make even the hardest edged fan comfortable. TASTING THE MUSIC SCENE

Next time you zip by on 281 North, be sure look on your right when you pass by Broadway and East Grayson Street. Chances are you’ll spot a rugged, green and grey structure whose roof is practically one leap away off the highway. The well known site that I am referring to is none other than Sam’s Burger Joint. Specializing as a live music club for the best in SA to showcase their talents, the venue offers all kinds of diverse music styles that range from Big Band Jazz to Rock, to Country to Reggae, to Blues and Ska and everything in between! And in case you did not know, Sam’s Burger Joint also specializes in great ½ pound beef burgers. And that they claim is just the small size! Another feature on their menu for customers to order is their award-winning battered fresh onion rings. Every night at the hip hangout is a new experience and a different music style for everyone to enjoy and jive to. For example, Mondays are Swing Night for the club and visitors can listen and dance to the best of the Big Band Sound in San Antonio. If you just so happen to be illiterate to the rhythms of swing, don’t refrain from coming because from 7-8 p.m. there are free Dance lessons for all who want to learn. Visit on Tuesdays and participate in Karaoke Night, drop by on Thursday and relax to the sultry sounds of the live Blues ensembles performing. Sam’s Burger Joint has a little bit for everyone who is looking for a fun time. For more information on Sam’s Burger Joint, visit their site for more details. CM
