COMEDY KING
It isn’t very often that a king graces us with his presence. Well, maybe this kind of king is a bit more common. Cedric the Entertainer will make his royal entrance at the Majestic Theatre on May 22. The hilarious antics of the self proclaimed “Ceddy-Bear” has graced the silver screen in numerous projects, as he is proven to be one of the most prolific comedic actors of the 21st century so far. He was uproarious in the Barbershop series, on television with The Steve Harvey Show, and of course what launched him into the public eye, The Original Kings of Comedy.

While he is primarily known for his stage act which isn’t exactly for the younger crowds, in recent years he has taken a shining to more children’s aimed roles such as Madagascar, Ice Age, and Charlotte’s Web. Also, in 2009, Cedric will be sitting in the director’s chair for the first time, with his latest project Chicago Pulaski Jones, a film about a dancer avenging his father’s death. It is a delight to have such a veteran of the comedy trade take the stage here in the Alamo City. WHITE T'S AT THE RABBIT
The Plain White T's have experienced a meteoric rise. Long gone are the days of a scrappy pop-punk band working every day of the year, playing dives and small stages on the Vans Warped Tour. Yet it seems that they haven't stopped having the same fun. From outside of Chicago, the band Plain White T's formed a little over 10 years ago and it seems that the dividends of all their hard work is finally paying off. The band earned two Grammy nominations for their mega hit "Hey There Delilah” for Song of the Year and Pop Performance by a Group, and have been featured in countless television shows and films. Their latest effort, Big Bad World, was just released a few months ago, and the pop punkers in Plain White T's is currently on tour supporting it. If you’d like to go see them rock in person, they will be in the Alamo City on April 10 at the White Rabbit. RAMSEY THE GREAT
With more than 80 albums to his credit including five gold records and three Grammy Awards, Ramsey Lewis, known as "the great performer,” epitomizes jazz's crossover appeal. Beginning with his first hit single, “Wade in the Water,” for the Chicago-based Cadet Records in the mid-1960s, Lewis hit the pop charts with several classic instrumentals for Columbia, such as “Hang On Sloopy,” “The In Crowd” and “Hi-Heel Sneakers.” Whether playing electric piano or synthesizers, his style is engaging and popular, often incorporating his early training in both gospel and classical music. In 2007, Lewis received the Jazz Masters Award from the National Endowment for the Arts. Presented by Trinity University"s jazz radio station, KRTU 91.7 FM, Lewis will perform in a benefit concert at 8 p.m. Friday (April 3) in Laurie Auditorium.
